Distribution- marketing

Film Posters

Film posters are the most common way a production company advertises there films, this is because it  is a relatively cheap and simple method of distribution. Production companies usually create several posters that are usually of different sizes and often have different content. Typically film posters contain an image, which is usually a photograph of the main actors. Film posters also have text on which contains the film title often in large bold writing, which the viewer can easily see so they will remember the films name so that they will watch the film. Film posters also usually feature the main actors names, directors name and release date. The most common place for film posters to be put up is outside and inside cinemas also in shops, around the streets and on buses and bus stops. The image of the film poster will also be used on DVD packaging and in advertisement in newspapers and magazines. Also most producers will release a teaser poster for their film. These types of posters will attract peoples attention as they make people excited about the film without giving away too much about the film as they are often witty and clever in the way they do this. A good example would be the film Thor:

For example, as you can see the producers of Thor released this teaser poster. This is a teaser poster as it does not give much away about the story and does not even have the film title on it. However, it does feature the main actor, which would attract audiences as fans of Chris Hemsworth or the marvel comic Thor as you can clearly see the film is based upon this comic.

This is the film poster of Thor. As you can see it has much more detail, for example you can see more of the characters and the actors that play them, also it has the film title and more text about the film and it releases much more about what the film will be about.
