Film Production

The production of a film is split into three separate parts:

Pre-production
This includes things such as planning, budgeting, scheduling, casting, hiring a director and creating the idea for the film.

Post-Production
For example, film/sound editing, special effects

Conglomerates and Synergy

Conglomerates definition: a thing consisting of a number of different and distinct parts or items that are grouped together.

A Conglomerate in media is a multi-industry company. There will be a parent company. For example, Virgin.
Virgin has many different industries connected to it, such as Virgin Media or Virgin Mobile- it provides different services (e.g. flights, cruises, internet) but is owned by the same company. Virgin consists of more than 400 companies worldwide.

Synergy definition: the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.

This means the way in which different elements of a media conglomerate work together to promote linked products across different media. For example, the media could be advertised on planes, buses and trains owned by the same company and would therefore be free and allows the product to marketed effectively.
New technologies support this (such as the internet, DVD's, Netflix) allowing more platforms to sell various products, for example many TV's, tablets, computers e.t.c. allow films to be downloaded or watched on software like Netflix.
