Questionnaire Results

Questionnaire Analysis

Question 1
For question one, we asked the public 'What type of characters do you expect to see in thriller films?' we asked them to tick more than one option if necessary so that we get a larger amount of data on what people actually like to see in thriller films. We gave them the option to select the following:
             Options                                              Results
  • Antagonist/ Protagonist  -                    3
  • Innocent Victims -                               5
  • Assassins -                                           2
  • Suspicious Individuals -                      5
  • Stalkers -                                             2
  • Other -                                                 1 (criminals)

The majority of the people we asked chose  Innocent Victims and Suspicious Individuals, therefore we will consider using these characters in our thriller film. This is because we want our film to appeal to a wide range of audiences and we will do this by taking the most popular option and involve it in our film. We can do this by including an innocent victim as a character as well as a suspicious individual.

Question 2
For question two, we asked people in our questionnaire 'Do you like thrillers to end on cliff hangers?' we thought this was a good question to ask because its a common convention of thriller films to end on a cliff hanger to build more tension and suspense. Also cliff hangers are controversial as some people love them and some people hate them, so therefore we want to find out what the majority of what people would prefer to watch.
       Options                                              Results
  • Yes -                                                   9
  • No -                                                    1
  • If not state why -                                " want to know what happens"

We can clearly see that the majority of the people we asked do enjoy cliff hangers. Therefore we will try to include a cliff hanger at the end of our thriller opening sequence. This is because it will create suspension and more people are likely to want to come and see our film as they enjoy this convention.

Question 3
This time, we wanted to ask the public 'Do you think that the credit sequence is important in an opening sequence?' This is because we will be including a credit sequence in our title sequence and we wanted to know whether people enjoy them and think they're relevant and if not, why?
     Options                                               Results
  • Yes -                                                  8
  • No -                                                   2
  • If not state why -                              "Because they are often long and put me off watching the
  •                                                            film"
  •                                                          "Often boring"

We now know that the majority of  the people we asked do in fact think credits are important. The people that said no that have criticised title sequences stated that they are boring and long, therefore when we make our credit sequence we will ensure that it is not long and is  done in a creative way so that people don't get bored.

Question 4
For question 4, we asked the public 'Do you like enigmas (mystery)?' We wanted to know this so we know whether or not to include an enigma in our film as enigmas are one of the key conventions of a thriller.
       Options                                         Results
  • Yes -                                            10
  • No -                                              0
  • If not state why -                         -none-

A whole 10/10 people we asked, do like enigmas. This now means that we must include a sense of mystery in our film as audiences clearly enjoy them and this would mean that they would want to see our film if we include an enigma.

Question 5
For question 5, we asked people in our questionnaire 'What type of thrillers do you like' we also gave them the option to tick more than one option if necessary. This gave us an idea on what our thriller film should be based on so the public enjoy the storylines more.
    Options                                             Results
  • None -                                         0
  • Murder Mystery -                       1
  • Chase Thrillers -                         2
  • Woman in Danger -                    0
  • Plot twisters -                              6
  • Other (state what thriller) -         1 -"Psychological Thrillers"

The most popular thriller sub genre was Plot twisters. Therefore, we will try and make this our main basis of our thriller film as people clearly enjoy watching these types of thrillers.

Question 6
For question 6, we asked the public 'Do you like thrillers that put character in menacing or dangerous situations?' We thought this was a good question to ask as characters are often put into dangerous situations in thriller films and we wanted to find out whether people actually enjoy watching this.
     Options                                                   Results
  • Yes -                                                     10
  • No -                                                       0
  • If not state why-                                   -none-

Out of all the people we asked, they all chose yes. This now gives us a clear insight into a theme and how to put the characters into these dangerous situations.

Question 7
Finally, we wanted to ask people 'What is your favourite thriller film?' This could be helpful whilst creating our thriller film so we can link our thriller film to a specific film and research more on their storylines.
    Results-
  • Source Code
  • Inception
  • X-men
  • Psycho
  • Flight Plan
  • Source Code
  • Source Code
  • Seven
  • The Sixth Sense
  • The Departed

Some of these films we have already researched, and we know some information on them. We have already researched Source Code and have taken an interest in the storylines, an it is clearly a popular film as it has been chosen three times by the ten people we asked. Therefore, we will try to base our thriller film around the Source Code storyline.
