Analysis of past students work

We decided that it would be beneficial for us to look at previous students work to give us an idea of what we are able of creating and an idea on what should be included in the 3 minutes of the opening sequence. We watched the students work and picked out the best points and the things that weren't so successful. We also had to think about what made these thriller film opening sequences, successful and how we can make our film work in the same way. Here are our notes on some of the previous students work.

WWW- The long title sequence built mention with the music building up. Good variation of the shots- pov with hand held camera builds up tension- shaky movement. Good storyline, it was clear and ended on a enigma. Mise-en-scene- good use of costume mask to show antagonist, blood used to show the victim.

EBI- a wider range of shots, possibly the use of a canted angle.

WWW-  Music was tense, had an enigma as we didn't know what happened

EBI- Could have used a tripod in some shots as it was slightly shaky when the camera needed to be still. The ending was slightly confusing, seemed rushed.

EBI- not a very successful film at all. Storyline was not clear- confusing. We did not like the music which was played as if it was thought the headphones, ruined the mood.  The settings were not good and did not put any thought into it as you could see it was set inside school.

WWW- Good use of casting the actors fitted there parts well. Lots of shots used, hand held camera shows someone is following them.

EBI- Not sure about the credits the font didn't fit- looked like a circus. Storyline unclear, started of good but lost it half way through.

WWW- Good editing skills used at the beginning of the sequence to show conversation between characters. Mise-en-scene - use of props, the gun.

EBI- Storyline did not make sense, no reason for the shooting, came to an abrupt end.

WWW- Good setting in the woods- automatically builds suspense. Good shot variation, different lengths, long distance and close-ups to show emotion.

EBI- The camera quality was bad very dark and pixilated. Possibly due to the lack of lighting.
