Research conclusion

After looking at previous students work we are now aware of what is successful in a thriller opening sequence. We came to the conclusion that the most successful title sequences were ones that had a clear storyline and as a viewer you could understand the basic storyline. However, some of the most successful did include enigmas and tension but although there was a mystery you could still understand the storyline as some of the students work made the mistake of springing a sudden surprise which was a mystery but it did not fit the story at all and made the sequence confusing. Another thing that we picked up was that the most successful title sequences were ones that used a variation of shots. This is because it showed that they had though about different shot lengths and angles. We decided that we need to use a wide variation of shots that will be creative and help to build the tension up in our film as the most successful were the films that did this. Another thing that we learnt through this research was that a common mistake that was made was that in some groups some of the shots were shaky as they clearly did not use a tripod.  To avoid this we will use a tripod for the shots that we want to be still to avoid any unnecessary movement of the camera as this makes the films look unprofessional and rushed. Some groups also had good use of Mise-en-scene for example they used things such as props e.g. a gun, make-up e.g. fake blood and in nearly all films costume was used successfully. Therefore we will have to think about mine-en-scene when we come to making our film so that we can portray the characters personality and there role in the story through there costumes by using stereotypical outfits that fit the characters role.
